Join us for the special performance with the new "Astor Club Trio", our official house band. The trio brings together three of Chicagos top native jazz musicians, fresh off their show stealing performances at the Chicago jazz festival this last summer. Jazz master and legendary bassist/songwriter Dennis Carrol is at the helm, leading two rising stars in the Chicago jazz scene, Lee Rothenberg on guitar and Neil Hemphill on drums. Comprised of musicians steeped in classic Chicago swing and soul, the trio nevertheless move into new directions as they are joined by various guests vocalists and players. Tonight's featured vocalist is Dee Alexander! Born on Chicago’s west side, Dee Alexander is one of the city's most gifted and respected vocalist/songwriters. Her talents span every music genre, from Gospel to R&B, Blues to Neo-Soul. Yet her true heart and soul are experienced in their purest form through Jazz. Growing up in a household steeped in recordings of Dinah Washington; Ms. Alexander names Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Chicago saxophonist Henry Huff among her major influences. Thus, setting her on the path to becoming one of the most accomplished voice improvisers in the world today. Ms. Alexander is currently a WFMT Jazz Radio host.
